The Town Crier calls:
Join us to hear the messengers coming from Cameroon, passing through Bandjoun, Bamenda, arriving in Berlin. Bobo Leennox and Grace Dorothée Tong are artists and community builders who are currently in residency at SAVVY Contemporary. They both work in close connection with their communities, spreading art among the youth to practice resilience and resistance despite all odds by proving that there are ways of art, figurative and abstract, which involve the community and shape civil society.
To learn about the interconnection between the cities of Bandjoun, Bamenda, and Berlin to unravel the myth of (under)development and move towards the post-(under)development interdependence, we invite you to listen to both their stories in conversation with writer, storyteller and publisher Dzekashu MacViban as well as with artist, composer and musician Tanka Fonta. There will be presentations and conversations, stories and reflections, music and food – join us!
The event is an outcome of the artistic residency of Grace and Bobo at SAVVY Contemporary, supported by Goethe Institut Kamerun. It is conceived during the Bandjoun Chapter of the project UNRAVELING THE (UNDER-)DEVELOPMENT COMPLEX OR TOWARDS A POST- (UNDER-)DEVELOPMENT INTERDEPENDENCE, funded by the TURN2 Fund of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Foundation). Funded by the Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media).
