Within the frequencies of our ongoing project MAGICAL HACKERISM, we warmly invite you to join us for a workshop with Czar Kristoff:
With an abundance of sachet practices and the highest numbers of internet users, the Philippines is often recognized as the place where mobile prepaid packages emerged – possibly as a digital translation of tingi tingi sachet culture. The Philippines have a vast culture of digital gestures and experimental publishing practices developing ecosystems around Internet Cafés and Piso Nets as learning spaces and XEROX Copy Machines as vectors of re•distribution and re•edition. In this gathering, Czar Kristoff, an artist, designer, publisher and organizer of Temporary UnReLearning Academy from Laguna, Philippines, will present to us a series of exercises around experimental publishing practices and archiving. His recent projects revolve around memory and mapping through means of publishing and digital gestures. In this workshop we will form gates with strings, we will draw memories and we will bring them to the clouds and back to earth and the streets.
CZAR KRISTOFF (Camarines Sur, Capricorn Earth Snake) is an artist, educator, designer and publisher, interested in (re)construction of space and memory, through concepts of nesting and temporary architecture, for (pedagogical) occupation, using cottage industry publishing – blueprints, xerox, and other low-fidelity printing methods – as his current media of interest. He has exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Showroom MAMA Rotterdam, Jogja National Museum, C3 Artspace Melbourne, Bangkok Arts and Culture Center, De Appel Amsterdam, Dansehallerne Copenhagen, FOAM Museum and Vargas Museum Manila.
Kristoff runs Temporary UnReLearning Academy, a school with no permanent address interested in queering cultural production in the Philippines. He is also part of To Be Determined Trojan Horse Cell (together with Alfred Marasigan, Clara Balaguer and Isola Tong), a collective that recently orbited the threshold of three institutions engaged with practices of archiving: Page Not Found Den Haag, PrintRoom and Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam.
He is based in Laguna, Philippines.
