Masks and Rhythms

In the framework of our 11-days-long programme LET'S SIT DOWN TOGETHER AND TALK ABOUT A LITTLE CULTURE, join us for a workshop with Das Freie Werkstattprinzip:

In this workshop we will make masks with cardboard and at the same time use percussive instruments based on the sound of capoeira de angola atabaque. The participants will work in two groups. At the end of the workshop, a small carnival will be performed in which people from 10 years old and children accompanied by their parents can participate.

Das Freie Werkstatt Prinzip has been organizing interdisciplinary art workshops with children & young people since 2019. Our aim is to give more young people in Berlin access to spaces for artistic expression and to learn about art as a tool for self-empowerment and encounters. At the same time, the project aims to encourage participants to reflect on the topics of inclusion and diversity through their own actions. To this end, the biographies and work processes of partner artists are presented, who are themselves migrants, have experienced various forms of discrimination and are creative role models for the project.

The project attempts to open up spaces outside of formal education in which participants can experiment with materials, space, bodies and instruments and in which encounters can take place with other children and young people who also want to play with the formal boundaries of artistic languages.
