After Nostalgia

In the framework of our collaboration with this year's Tanznacht festival, we invite you to a performance by Harun Morrison: In the film Nostalgia (1983) directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, a late scene features a writer, who is tasked with crossing an empty, ancient thermal pool with a lighted candle as an act of faith. The candle is blown out on multiple attempts, he keeps trying.

“After Nostalgia” invites a self-organizing group of people rather than a single person to carry a lit candle across a nearby square, collectively using their bodies to shield the flame from the wind. This communal effort to protect something fragile offers a metaphorical action through which to consider our relationship to ecological networks.
