After her yearlong artistic residency at SAVVY Contemporary, Manmeet Kaur is launching her new album The Groundwaters Are Connected. She will present its live premiere with a concert at SAVVY streamed via our social media channels.
India’s pioneer femcee on her first self-composed album:
“The same that's formed from the mountain dew in the majestic belly of nature, is extracted in a strategized flow to develop biased energy of exploitative use, used to clean the nuclear waste, ultimately disturbing the ecosystem of flora and fauna, still remaining discrete in the hands of a few, perpetually dominating ingredients of what we eat. In today's time of urban edu-conditioning favoring the global nationalists, we as artistes must find a simpler way to project the needed alarm, of knowing, while doing justice to our existence.
Being my first self composed album, it reintroduced me to experiment with Hip Hop music, as much as it held influence from my traditional tendencies on mic. I blended sounds that I recorded during my stay and travels in India, Germany and France onto unquantized beats that I made over these months to merge conversations and frequencies coming from my social interactions. The lyrics are a mirror of my inner conflicts and reminders, of living realities and home."
