Uncovering (Germany's) colonial history means labour. Stressful labour that is so often carried out by the descendants of those previously harmed by the violent imperial structures that have defined colonial enterprises. Facing colonial continuities day in and day out often forces us to repress our emotions, makes us question the validity of our sentiments.
But uncovering colonial history demands sensitivity and endurance, a powerful combination that we can best practice in the collective and by forming community. The workshop aims to provide a space in which we can download, reset, gather our strengths. We will turn to various methods of expression and (stress) relief (e.g. through breathwork, stretching, singing) to implement in our daily lives.
We will also access SAVVY's Colonial Neighbours archive. Participants are invited to voice their thoughts and reflections by way of methods concerning care, resilience and remembrance.
Jeanne-Ange Wagne is an art historian, knowledge mediator and event curator who engages in artistic research on (German) remembrance culture, colonial history and colonial provenance research.
This workshop is part of Wedding Affairs, our neighbourhood gatherings within the 15-months-long programme TRANSITIONS, funded by Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
